Fine of DKK 1.2. mio. Recommeded for Taxi Company’s Storage of Costumer Phone Numbers

Published 25 March 2019

PrintCategory: Other Compliance Requirements

On 25 March 2019, the Danish Data Protection Agency (DPA) submitted a notice to the Danish police regarding a Danish taxi company’s violation of the General Personal Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for storage of customer phone numbers. Even though the taxi company deletes customer names 2 years after a fare has been conducted, the DPA holds the view that the taxi company’s continued storage of the customers’ phone numbers for an additional 3 years is unlawful. The DPA has recommended that the taxi company is sanctioned with a fine of DKK 1.2 mio.

The notice to the police by the DPA is the first of its kind in Denmark since the GDPR entered into force.

The police will now examine the case and decide if the case should be brought to court.

See the Danish DPA’s resume of the case here.
