Invest Europe to set ESG Reporting Standards

Published 24 January 2022

PrintCategory: Impact and ESG

In November 2021, Invest Europe released its Climate Ambition in which the association committed to contribute to the EU becoming climate-neutral by 2050 and pledged to help the P/E and VC industry move towards net zero.

Now, Invest Europe is in the process of developing a coherent set of standards for how the European P/E and VC industry should report on ESG matters – to both investors and other stakeholders. These are expected to be established by summer 2022.

Further, Invest Europe will from mid-2022 unveil a new initiative to gather data from P/E and VC firms on ESG KPIs. Such data will cover areas including environmental performance, female representation and measures to combat bribery and corruption. The aim is to measure the industry’s performance on ESG issues and track the progress on an annual basis.

The information will be collected via the European Data Cooperative data base that already gathers annual and semi-annual fundraising, investment and divestment data on more than 1,600 European P/E and VC firms – accounting for 90 % of the EUR 754 billion in capital under management in Europe.

Read more about Invest Europe’s initiative here.

What’s next: Invest Europe will establish a set of standards for how to report on ESG matters by summer 2022 and from mid-2022 unveil its initiate to gather data on certain ESG KPIs.
