Private equity fundraising in Europe hit a record high in 2022

2022 was an exceptional year for fundraising in Europe. 2022 saw a 30% increase year over year, hitting the highest level on record, according to the 2022 Private Equity Activity Report from Invest Europe.

Key takeaways from the report include:

  • 801 funds raised EUR 170bn during the year, the second highest number of funds since 2008, and the highest monetary amount ever recorded.
    • This includes EUR 23bn raised by 343 venture capital funds, of which 81 were first-time funds.
  • EUR 130bn were invested in European companies, the second highest level since 2008.
    • 5,435 companies received a venture investment, reaching EUR 18bn invested in venture capital, equaling almost 50% more than the average of the past five years.
