European VC funding drops in Q1

Crunchbase, a provider of data on investments and funding, has published new numbers on European VC.

The numbers confirm what industry actors have felt in 2023: the market is dropping.

In 2023 year to date, European startups have raised USD 10.6 billion, which is a fall of 18% quarter over quarter and 66% year over year. This fits the general market tendencies, whereas the global funding market is down 53% year over year.

On the bright side is, however, that early-stage funding saw the lowest drop of “only” 7% quarter over quarter, thus pre-seed stage companies seeing more stability than the general market.
