ESG Legislation: Timeline and Development

Since the UN Paris Agreement was signed by world leaders in 2016 and UN adopted their Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), we have seen not only increasing investor demand for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices but also increased activity in ESG legislation. The European Commission has issued an array of regulations covering ESG considerations that asset managers must comply with.
